Christian Funeral Planning

Greetings in the name of Christ!

 - -- - - - -This web site will continue to develop over the next few months ----  smiley

I’m glad you found this web site. My prayer is that this internet site would provide you with practical help and ideas in planning a memorial service / funeral for a love one.

This site may not answer all your questions but it will alert you to some matters you may want to discuss with your family, your pastor and your funeral director. Keep in mind that there is considerable variation in practices and traditions concerning funerals and memorial services. There will be many options and choices presented to you. It is most important that the stated wishes of your loved one be respected and that you are happy with decisions being made. It is my own conviction that the whole process, including the memorial service, should honor the Lord and testify to His love and grace. I’m not an “expert,” but in the past 23 years as a pastor I’ve “walked through the valley of the shadow of death” with friends and family members as being confronted with a cancer scare myself.

Overview:

When a loved one has died:

- Contact your doctor

- Contact your pastor or priest

- Contact your funeral director (This alerts them to the situation. However, you may want to communicate that you (and family members) wish to have time to be with the deceased person. That is up to you.) You may want time alone to reflect and pray.

- Contact family members. (You may want to delegate this task.)

- When you feel ready, discuss with your pastor and funeral director preliminary plans. (Will there be a cremation or full burial?  Will the memorial service / funeral take place in a funeral chapel or at a church? What are some rough estimates regarding the timing of a memorial service? (This may take several days to finalize as family members and other relatives may need to be consulted.) Don’t feel pressured into make quick decisions. Review your loved ones wishes and preferences previously recorded.

- Ask trusted friends for help. Friends will be honored and blessed to be able to assist you in your time of need.
